Cinco de Mayo
Did you know Cinco de Mayo celebrations are more popular in the U.S than in Mexíco? The truth is, Cinco de Mayo (or, "Battle of Puebla Day") is a more somber, reflective holiday in Mexíco, more similar to Memorial Day in the US.
While American Cinco de Mayo celebrations are a great opportunity to share delicious meals with friends and loved ones that are cherished by many Mexican-Americans, the holiday itself isn’t the most auténtico.
Día de las Madres
A more authentic day is el Día de las Madres, just 5 days later, on May 10th. Often referred to as “Mexican Mother’s Day,” Día de las Madres is a huge national celebration. All across Mexíco, mamás wake up to serenatas performed by mariachi musicians and share delicious breakfasts con sus familias.
Moms on Día de las Madres are often referred to as “Las Reinas de la Casa” or, “The Queens of the Home.”
